Company Profile

At Unearth Consulting, our purpose is simple: to deliver high quality work at an efficient rate, while keeping the costs affordable and in turn, contributing towards sustainable development. Based in Johannesburg, Unearth Consulting was founded to service the fields of Environmental Management and Environmental Impact Assessments in South Africa and other emerging markets further afield. Our core expertise lies in evaluating the impacts and risks of developments on the economic, natural, and social environments. This is primarily accomplished through the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process.

We implement meticulous scientific methods during our assessments, emphasized by embracing a holistic, knowledgeable view of the environment and a practical perspective on sustainable development. The result is professional, objective, trustworthy, vigorous products that can be defended during the project and EIA processes. We believe that with thoughtful and thorough planning, it is possible to strike a balance between development and environmental protection.

Our team members are well qualified to perform the required assessments, due to their postgraduate qualifications in biological sciences and conservation, as well as experience in the industry. Unearth Consulting has established strong working relationships with many other specialists and consulting companies in the industry. This has allowed us to gain proficiency in additional fields like bat, aquatic and biological assessments.

Our team’s history of working in the natural environment means we have extensive knowledge and keen awareness of the environment, and the social difficulties involved in developing, operating and managing renewable energy facilities and associated infrastructure in emergent economies.

We have experience in managing large Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) in the following areas:

  • Renewable energy (wind and solar).
